Course Overview


Welcome to the PULSE Learning Plaform, a  course is intended for urban policymakers, community groups, and those interested in big data applications for smart, sustainable cities.  The course is designed to meet the needs of people without significant expertise or training in data science; however, there is opportunity for more advanced learners to further their knowledge and skills.

The course is divided in thirteen modules:

    1. Introduction.
    2. Public health: challenges for the cities.
    3. Social determinants for health.
    4. Health in All Policies.
    5. Inclusive Smart Cities.
    6. Big data approach and opportunities for the society.
    7. Artificial Intelligence.
    8. Health risk models.
    9. Wellbeing models.
    10. Geographic information for health data.
    11. Mobile technology and citizen participation.
    12. New approaches of Citizen science, open science.
    13. Ethics, regulation.

Participants will work through the course on an individual basis but we encourage you to participate in the difference community forums in order to share your knowledge, experiences and more. Participants will be assessed via completion of a weekly comprehension and knowledge quiz. Successful completion of the course will be defined by achievement of 80% correct answers in the quizzes (averaged across all the quizzes).

    Available courses

    This course is intended for urban policymakers, community groups, and those interested in big data applications for smart, sustainable cities.  The course is designed to meet the needs of people without significant expertise or training in data science; however, there is opportunity for more advanced learners to further their knowledge and skills.

    The course is divided into thirteen modules delivered over a six-week period. Enrolees with less experience will be advised to review and revise during part of module 3 as this module also contains material for more advanced learners.
